Housing ReTEntion Support

The Housing Supportive Services (HSS) Team

Do Good’s Housing Supportive Services (HSS) team supports our participants as they transition from short- and long-term houselessness into housing. The team works with participants on the next steps of their journey toward achieving stability in housing, income, health, and well-being, while also encouraging autonomy and self-determination.

Each participant is paired with a Housing Retention Specialist and a Peer Support Specialist who work regularly with newly re-housed individuals. In this model of peer-driven wraparound support, teams work collaboratively with our participants, empowering them as they accomplish their goals and continue the forward progress started in shelter.

This program is unique from other Do Good programs as it was the first time that we collaborated with another service provider to collectively house individuals through the state-funded initiative Oregon All In. During the launch period of three months, we were able to move 167 individuals into housing. While the initial phase is over, the team is now in the second, and arguably most impactful, process of wraparound retention support.

These specialist teams craft person-centered, trauma-informed approaches that support participants in:

  • Navigating service and resource networks

  • Identifying opportunities for long-term rental assistance

  • Applying for income-improving benefits such as SSI, SSDI, SNAP, or unemployment

  • Job applications

  • Medical care access

  • Food security resources

  • Group counseling and recovery support

By centering an individualized approach, the HSS team has the flexibility and freedom to truly meet folks where they are in their housing journey. Most importantly, this proven process helps individuals retain their housing.

In its first 12 months, the HSS team offered services to 170 participants and delivered an 80% housing retention rate.
